“We cannot break the Ten Commandments. We can only break ourselves against them—or else, by keeping them, rise through them to the fulness of freedom under God. " (Commencement Address, Brigham Young University Speeches of the Year, Provo, 31 May 1957.)
Find out what your family knows about the commandments.
We must be prepared for persecutions for what we believe, this includes the basic ten commandments.
It was so revealing when people were interviewed and did well regarding pop culture but did not even know the ten commandments let alone keep them.
They can be grouped into two groups.
1 love God
2 love others
There was a talk about how ten commandments were all explained to having been all about our relationships.
It is debated where Sinai is, like that video I saw. About there is no physical proof or location with evidence of the children of Israel were there.
The Lord keeps all of his promises, unfailingly.
Interesting the trip is likened to mortal trip of man from traversing Red Sea (Baptism) to Canaan
(Heaven).
D&C 84
21 And without the ordinances thereof, and the authority of the priesthood, the power of godliness is not manifest unto men in the flesh;
22 For without this no man can see the face of God, even the Father, and live.
23 Now this Moses plainly taught to the children of Israel in the wilderness, and sought diligently to sanctify his people that they might behold the face of God;
24 But they hardened their hearts and could not endure his presence; therefore, the Lord in his wrath, for his anger was kindled against them, swore that they should not enter into his rest while in the wilderness, which rest is the fulness of his glory.
Hebrews 8:10
Whatever man loves most and puts his trust in is God. When a man falters or falls it is because,he placed his trust/hope in the arm of flesh.
The traditional family is no longer the norm, it is a matter of placing our priorities as God first, which was a commandment originally given first that we need to love God first, and then let things fall where they may, all else will work out.
God is Jealous. See footnote 5a He has Deep Feelings for us.
Show love best by doing.
61 Wherefore, let all men beware how they take my name in their lips
62 For behold, verily I say, that many there be who are under this condemnation, who use the name of the Lord, and use it in vain, having not authority.
Taking name in vain means that we will speak our hearts and not be false with our words.
It is important to also teach about the happiness or joy that comes from keeping a commandment. Like how John Groberg said in a quote that it would help.
A man's family ought to know by his life that he is Christian.
Honor is something that is absorbed by the way we do something.
We have been assigned as having parents that we have. Even if we donor think they are good, we need to obey our parents.
No adultery. It breaks down the building blocks of the nation, do it is sort of unpatriotic. Or nothing like it. Christ taught that we should not even think such things. I think letting a harmless thought in, sometimes it grabs a hold of an idea.
Story about a stolen pen that said, this pen was stolen from:
Covet in Hebrew means to desire. If we can keep that one, all of the others will be kept.
Commandments are not a suggestion.
Most are self denying "Thou shalt not..." Which is a choice to be less selfish.
How do rules make us free?
Gives you a moral compass.
Comment about Japan reminds me of FT CC Honor. There is something to be said for self governing.
"Maybe we should all move to Japan."
Consequence of not keeping commandments will not let them keep the gift of the Holy Ghost.
People saw great power of the Lord. But, Moses says, "Fear not".
Isreal wanted God to talk to Moses and not to us. We likewise have our own doubts, but God really want to be approachable "Come unto me." But, Satan likes to play on our mortal tendency to back away from what we fear.
This is childish, but not teachable. We shy away from something great. Like the great and terrible day of the Lord.
Natural alters of rock, then man made alters become a lesser law.
"Rather than be ruled by man's love we should be ruled by God's love."
Cecil DeMille
These commandments are lesser and easier laws because a higher law could not be kept, heck those ten could not be kept.
The Lord desires more, this is not enough.
As she typed it made me capitilize the ten commandments and would it not be incredible if we capitalized it in our lives.
